Swat deal violation of human rights,United States

The Obama administration is objecting to the approval of Islamic law in a frontier region of Pakistan on human rights and democracy grounds.

President Asif Ali Zardari has approved implementation of Sharia in a mountainous portion of the rugged Northwest Frontier Province.

Asked about Zardari’s decision, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said the administration believes security cannot be introduced with “less democracy and less human rights. The signing of that denoting strict Islamic law in the Swat Valley … goes against both of those principles.”
